The mere philosophy of NON-duality could strike one as being: flaccid, worthless, and weak. For its power to transform us lays in neither superstition nor skullduggery but rather in the dynamo of yogic contemplation that makes full use of our autonomic nervous system.
Although transcending duality is inferred in the Heart Sutra of Avalokiteshvara, it is explored more thoroughly in the third Ch’an patriarch’s “Verses on the Faith Mind,” which opens with the tantalizing promise:
“The great way is NOT difficult for those who have NO preferences.
When love and hate are both absent everything becomes clear and undisguised.
Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are sent infinitely apart.”
When our practices of mindfulness, meditation, and contemplation are coordinated with respiratory yoga Samsara’s duality of dread and desire as well as confusion’s duality of competition and clinging are soon transcended.
