Some dispense cryptic meditation instructions such as “Just Sit!” out of self-importance or mental laziness. But such advice could confuse.
Any good biologist could speak of stressors: circumstantial, physical, social, and mental; but it took the Buddha to point out how the tyranny of our resistance to the presence, absence, or loss of that which we hate, crave, or cling only exacerbates our stress.
As we mentally recite “Notice this…” with each inhalation we are wired to observe. And as we silently recite “relaxing!” during each out-breath our parasympathetic nervous system could support our physical relaxation and our mental release that we too could meditate like a Jedi.
