Of course you've noticed
that fifty percent of the eightfold path consists of love and
ZERO percent address either karma, or inauspicious rebirth.
All around the globe adherents to institutional religiosity,
(those who delight in traversing the path of being: rigid, fearful, superstitious, controlling, elitist, cryptic, competitive, and cruel) each have fear based teachings of hell and inauspicious rebirth; be they Hindu, Taoist, Buddhist, Shamanistic, or Christian.
The path of proto-Buddhism is one of being: flexible, loving, rational, laid-back, egalitarian, lucid, cooperative, and kind. If it's not simple, quick, and easy, then it's most likely NOT the path of proto-Buddhism.
