Mindfulness, Impermanence, and Meditation - 17jan23

In junior high my companions would regale each other with tales of Bruce Lee. Each story a more fanciful departure from the truth. The same thing occurs concerning the Buddha: tales of bliss and attainment each straying further from what he taught.

Beware of those who speak fondly of the bliss of permanent mindfulness for mindfulness that is oblivious to pain is NOT mindful. In the teachings of both Sutra and Tantra we are told of the evanescent nature of mindfulness. Contemporary neuroscience echoes this explaining that although inhalation is the domain mindfulness, exhalation is the seat of meditation which is quite different.

As taught in the pith instructions of India and Tibet: ALL the functions of our mind (including mindfulness) are as a swirling dance, forever waxing and waning. Leap over your competition as well as clinging and slice through the tyranny of dread and desire every twelve hours and you too could meditate like a Jedi.
