Harmful Shortcuts - 19oct22

Writer: Lama Jigme GyatsoLama Jigme Gyatso

It is true: some emotions, intentions, thoughts, memories, and imaginings could be remarkably painful. Out of compassion for their students weak-minded teachers have concocted contemplative shortcuts.

But like most affirmations, phrases such as, “I am not this thought!” serve only to strengthen our rigidity, aversion, and controlling tendencies; the very things that intensify the stressors active in our lives.

Due to a happy coincidence of evolution we’re already wired for effortless awareness and release. All we need to do is align our intention with the nuances of our autonomic nervous system to quickly release our resistance to the present moment.
