Why Keep Meditating?
Norman, the ugly American, stalked through the Thai monastery, his expensive sneakers squeaking upon the polished wooden floor; his garments stretched tight across his over muscled physique. “Hey Ajan,” he demanded, “if you’re so enlightened why do you keep meditating? Why don’t you get off your scrawny ass and do something meaningful to help others?”
“I don’t know, Captain America; you’re already buff, why do you continue to work out?”
“Entropy, mutha fuckah, I worked hard to be this jacked, and without training I could lose these amazing gains.”
“Yes, my wisdom, peace, and love are as impermanent as your gains. Like your physique, my mind (too) is subject to interdependence and as such hungers for that which could optimize it, just as your body aches for its next workout. Can you defend your pumping iron as anything other than the epitome of selfishness, my young friend?
“Simple, Ajan, this body is a work of art and it inspires others to be their best.”
“In similar manner, are not my KIND: choices, utterances, and deeds an inspiration to others no less the peaceful manner in which they are carried out?”
