There are some
who euthanize their dogs
to make themselves feel better.
But that is not really euthanasia
is it?
It is just legal murder.
There are others who dearly love
the dogs who’ve adopted them,
but there canine overlord
is in utter agony,
and these humans
really want to do right by their dogs
though the very thought it
breaks their hearts.
But even with the best of motivations
how is one to know
what the dog wants,
and then they want it?
This is a case
for what the Buddhists describe
as “skillful-means.”
Our effective practice
of mindfulness and meditation
could transform our scatteredness and contrivance
into centered spontaneity
through which we can flow effortlessly
into the right decision,
at the right time.
Let us conclude
with a simple
call to action
