The fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet
does NOT enjoy all of his duties.
He is often asked to write forwards
to other people’s books.
And many of those forwards
are quite perfunctory:
“This is a dharma book,
and dharma is good,
so you should read this.”
You can imagine my surprise
when at last I came upon a text,
within whose forward the Dalai Lama can be seen
to absolutely gush.
First he lauds
“The Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones”
as containing
the complete path to enlightenment,
which is high praise in deed
from one raise and educated
by Tibet’s hyper-conservative Gelug sect.
Finally he waxes figurative
and describes the text as being like
an elixir for reviving the dead;
not unlike the Nightsisters of Dathomir’s
treatment of Darth Maul.
