The prose of the Tao Te Ching is as compelling as it is opaque. In daily life, how is one to apply it: spontaneously, effortlessly, and skillfully?
Follow the meditation instructions in its fifteenth chapter (every twelve hours) and you could intuit the middle ground between the two toxic extremes of being controlling or scattered. It is sometimes translated as “NOT trying to become emperor,” or merely as “simplicity.” Whatever you call it, it is the key to training our choices, utterances, and deeds to flow from centered spontaneity: the fruit of meditating like a Jedi.
