Alcoholism, Depression, and Logic - 19sep21

The part of the brain

that deals with logic

is NOT the part of the brain

that gets addicted

so you can’t talk someone

out of alcoholism.

The part of the brain that is logical

is the same part of the brain

that when too exhausted

manifests the symptoms of depression;

so it’s too late

for logic.

The good news is that

your depressed, alcoholic friend

has a secret weapon… YOU!

Visit him every night,

and since depression is exacerbated,

if not caused,

by systemic inflammation

ply him with his favorite HEALTHY foods;

everybody loves fruit.

Just listen,

and be silly

and goof off.

Watch his favorite silly movies,

show up with nerf sabers or pistols,

and play and have fun.

And when he initiates

and asks for help

together watch that video

about forgetting to drink.

Remember how playful

Yoda was with Luke

in “The Last Jedi,”

and doubt thou not

the healing power of tom-foolery!

Let us conclude

with a simple

call to action
