How are we to know if our practice of meditation is detrimental, inconsequential, or beneficial? As William Camden wrote (in 1605) “The proof of the pudding is in the tasting…” likewise the test of any contemplative technique is as follows:
FIRST – receive a specific technique from a teacher or author,
SECOND – apply the technique about once every 12 hours, for seven consecutive days, and
THIRD – notice your results.
Have you become as nervous as C3PO or as cranky as Darth Vader? Then it may be time to switch to a new technique. If your love and peace have grown reminiscent of Qui Gon Jinn on Tatooine, who advised “I counsel peace, the solution will present itself.” then yes you’re practicing an effective form of meditation. _/\_
